‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ soars with DVR playback

December 7, 2015

agents ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ increased its 18-49 rating by 85 percent through DVR playback.

ABC’s “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” doesn’t typically receive superhero-sized ratings, but it does receive a nice boost from seven-day DVR playback.

That was the cast for the show’s Nov. 17 episode, which posted a season-high 2.4 rating among viewers 18-49 with seven-day DVR playback factored in, according to Nielsen.

That was up 85 percent from its original 1.3 live-plus-same-day DVR playback rating, and it moved the show ahead of CBS’s “NCIS: New Orleans” for No. 2 in the demo in the Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot.

It also pulled “S.H.I.E.L.D.” to within 0.4 ratings points of NBC’s “Chicago Med,” after trailing by 0.9 points in L+SD ratings.

The drama also saw solid DVR growth among total viewers, rising 75 percent from its original number for an L+7 total of 6.29 million.

Meanwhile, CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” enjoyed the most DVR growth of the week among viewers 18-49, adding 2.4 ratings points for a 6.2 L+7 rating.

As usual, two other shows added at least 2.0 ratings points through seven-day playback: Fox’s “Empire,” up 2.1 to a 6.5 L+7 rating, and ABC’s “Modern Family,” up 2.0 to a 4.8 L+7 rating.
