‘Duck Dynasty’ closes out a down season

March 28, 2014

The season finale of “Duck Dynasty” saw gains among total viewers and adults 18-49 for its season finale, though it was well below the record numbers it posted last season.

Wednesday night’s episode averaged a 2.5 adults 18-49 rating at 10 p.m. on A&E, according to Nielsen overnights, up 32 percent from last week’s season-low 1.9.

It was not only the No. 1 program of the night on cable in the demo but also the No. 2 show on all of television on Wednesday, behind only ABC’s “Modern Family” (3.6).

“Duck” also drew 6.01 million total viewers, surging  28 percent from last week.

Still, “Duck” was way off from the 3.5 rating and 8.4 million viewers who watched the fourth-season finale last fall. The program has seen ratings fall steadily since drawing a series-high 5.0 rating and 11.77 million total viewers for its fourth-season premiere last August.

Meanwhile, in other ratings Wednesday, the series finale of USA’s “Psych” drew 1.928 million viewers, up more than 400,000 over its penultimate episode.
