Comedy’s top podcast guy: Stand-up Joe Rogan
November 10, 2016
Each week, Media Life profiles a different genre of podcast and brings you that week’s top 10
To many, Joe Rogan may still be best known as the host of “Fear Factor” back in the mid-2000s on NBC.
But Rogan was a stand-up comic before he landed that gig, and he has transitioned into a pretty interesting interviewer as host of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” a podcast that consistently ranks as one of iTunes’ top in the comedy category.
Rogan interviews a wide range of people. Many of them are friends from his years on tour. But he’s also spoken with authors and artists, as well as the occasional porn star.
This week’s podcast dropped on Wednesday, a day many Americans were in need of a laugh after the previous night’s surprising election news (because no matter which side you were on, it was a heck of a night).
“JRE” quickly jumped up to No. 1 on the podcast chart for the week in the comedy category, as measured by iTunes, with an interview featuring Bert Kreischer.
Like Rogan, he’s a comedian and a TV host, with an interesting past. He was featured as America’s top partier by Rolling Stone nearly two decades ago, during his fraternity days at Florida State. He says “Van Wilder” was based on his life.
He has his own podcast, “Bertcast,” and has appeared on “JRE” before.
