Best bet on broadcast: CBS, “Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” 11:35 p.m. Actress Lupita Nyong’o and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders both guest.
Best bet on cable: TNT, “Cold Justice,” 8 p.m. Season finale. Kelly and Yolanda look into two old murders that may be related.
Top sporting event: ESPN, “College Football,” 8 p.m. No. 9 Florida State travels to Boston to take on ACC rival Boston College.
SATURDAY
Best bet on broadcast: ABC, “College Football,” 8 p.m. No. 6 USC hosts Pac-12 conference rival Stanford.
Best bet on cable: BBC America, “Doctor Who,” 9 p.m. Season premiere. A group of aliens freeze the sky, and later the Doctor runs into old enemies.
Top special event: Univision, “Sabado Gigante,” 8 p.m. The longest-running variety show in the world closes up with the final episode, hosted as always by Don Francisco.
SUNDAY
Best bet on broadcast: Fox, “Primetime Emmy Awards,” 8 p.m. “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star Andy Samberg hosts the 67th annual event.
Best bet on cable: E!, “DASH Dolls,” 9 p.m. Series premiere. New reality show following women who work with the Kardashian sisters at their store in West Hollywood.
Top sporting event: NBC, “Sunday Night Football,” 8:20 p.m. A rematch of last season’s NFC Championship game between the Seahawks and Packers in Green Bay.
