The scoop behind the new satire ’31 Rock’
December 21, 2015
So what’s the deal with “31 Rock?”
For years Tina Fey made fun of Sarah Palin with her spot-on impression, which she pulled out over the weekend during a guest appearance on “Saturday Night Live.”
Now Palin’s striking back with her own satire.
It’s called “31 Rock,” and the trailer premiered online Monday.
Wait, what?
No kidding. Palin really does star in a one-minute trailer for a show dubbed “31 Rock,” which has become a viral hit, racking up more than 24,000 views in less than 12 hours.
She plays a character named Lynn Melon — any resemblance to “30 Rock’s” Liz Lemon, who Fey played, is totally intentional.
So what in the world is this parody for?
It’s a spoof for Independent Journal, a conservative site that’s getting a lot of mileage from the amusing video. Dozens of websites did stories on “31 Rock,” which also included cameos by Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham.
Online reaction ranged from dismissive to appreciative, mostly depending on which side of the aisle you hail from.
