‘The Muppets’ gets full-season order
October 30, 2015
“The Muppets” will continue for a bit longer on ABC.
The network has picked up a full season of the sitcom, though that amounts to just three additional episodes, beyond the 13 that have already been ordered.
The network has several midseason sitcoms already planned, which likely contributed to the decision.
“Muppets” is averaging a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen, ranking fourth among all new shows, behind only “Supergirl,” “Blindspot” and “Life in Pieces.”
However, much of that came from the 2.9 the series debut averaged. The show has since lost more than half its audience.
This past week marked the first time “Muppets” saw growth from its last original, increasing a tenth to a 1.4. That may have helped convince ABC it was worth further investment.
“Muppets” came into the season with a huge amount of buzz and high expectations. Media buyers tabbed it as the new show most likely to be a hit.
It has improved the Tuesday timeslot over last year for ABC, up 92 percent over last year in the demo, though that’s compared to the short-lived “Selfie.”
“Muppets” is the ninth new show to receive a full-season order, and the third on ABC, joining “Quantico” and “Dr. Ken.”
