‘Rosewood’ receives a full-season order
October 16, 2015
A great lead-in can give a show a huge lift. But a good lead-out can be pretty effective, too, as Fox’s “Rosewood” has discovered.
Airing before mega-hit “Empire,” “Rosewood” has become one of the top-rated new shows of the season, and the network rewarded the medical drama with a full-season pickup Friday.
The program has averaged a 1.9 adults 18-49 Nielsen rating through its first four episodes. It becomes the third new show to receive a full-season order, along with NBC’s “Blindspot” and ABC’s “Quantico.”
“Rosewood” airs at 8 p.m. Wednesday, an hour before “Empire,” and it generally sees a jump in its second half hour, as people begin tuning into Fox to get ready for “Empire.”
The pickup is not a big surprise. Though the show has seen declines since its debut, its numbers are still decent compared to the competition, and they’re an improvement on what Fox averaged last year in the 8 p.m. Wednesday slot with “Hell’s Kitchen.”
Further, Fox’s other new shows are struggling, and the network needs some stability on its schedule. New comedies “Grandfathered,” “The Grinder” and “Scream Queens” have drawn consistently lower ratings than “Rosewood.”
“Rosewood” is tied with long-running animated comedy “The Simpsons” as Fox’s No. 2 show this season, behind “Empire.”
