Meredith Corp. has promoted Tom Harty to president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. Harty had been president of the company’s national media group; Jon Werther will replace him in that role.
Essence magazines has promoted two, naming Yolanda Sangweni digital content director for and Charli Penn senior editor for relationships and lifestyle for Essence.com. Sangweni has been entertainment editor, while Penn was relationships and weddings editor.
Agencies
AKQA has promoted Rachel Barek to general manager, in charge of the agency’s Washington, D.C., office. Barek joined the agency in 2010 as senior account director.
TV/Video
Media analytics company Samba TV has brought in Dan Ackerman, naming him chief revenue officer. Ackerman was previously senior vice president at AOL TV’s programmatic arm, ONE.
Bloomberg TV has named Alix Steel co-host of “Bloomberg <GO>,” joining David Westin and Jonathan Ferro. Steel previously anchored the network’s “Bloomberg Markets.”
Actress Aisha Tyler has been promoted to series regular on CBS’s “Criminal Minds” for the upcoming season, after previously appearing in a recurring role. Tyler also voices a character on “Archer” and hosts CW’s “Whose Line Is It Anyway.”
Hillary Clinton will guest on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Aug. 22, her first late-night appearance since officially becoming the Democratic presidential nominee. Clinton most recently appeared on the show in March.
Digital
Marketing technology company Tapad has made two additions, naming Rouzbeh Gerami and Shawn Simpson senior data scientists. Gerami joins from YuMe, Simpsons from Dow Jones.
Dafna Sarnoff has been named chief marketing officer at Intersection, a media technology company. Sarnoff was most recently senior vice president of marketing at Yodle.
