John Cruickshank, publisher at The Toronto Star and president of Star Media Group, is stepping down from his position on May 4, although he will continue as co-chair at Canadian Press Enterprises. Cruickshank will also continue to serve as one of the paper’s directors on the CPE board.
The Dallas Morning News has named Jill Cowan economy reporter, beginning March 21. Cowan was previously a reporter at The Tennessean.
Crispin Porter + Bogusky has promoted Kevin Jones to chief creative officer, working in the agency’s Los Angeles office. Jones joined the agency in 2014 as executive creative director, and before that he was at Wieden+Kennedy.
Scott Elliot has been named vice president of sales at Wrapify, an out-of-home company that pays people to put ad wraps on their cars. Elliot was most recently vice president of sales at Branded Cities Network.
Universal Cable Productions has expanded the role of executive vice president of development Dawn Olmstead, also putting her in charge of development for its unscripted arm, Wilshire Studios. Olmstead has been with the company since 2014.
Janelle Rodriguez, senior vice president of editorial for NBC News, has been given the added responsibility of MSNBC’s daytime programming. Rodriguez had already been working with streamlining the connection between MSNBC and NBC News.
Actress Andrea Parker will return to Freeform’s “Pretty Little Liars” for it seventh season, in a series regular role. Parker will play Mary Drake, the biological mother of Charlotte DiLaurentis and the identical twin to Parker’s deceased character, Jessica DiLaurentis.
Kevin Eyres has been named chief brand officer at in/PACT, which runs a digital brand loyalty platform. Eyres is a former managing director at LinkedIn Europe.
Fox News Channel’s Megyn Kelly is heading to broadcast TV. Kelly is set to host an hour-long primetime interview special on Fox on May 23, for which the guests have yet to be named. A release says the special will feature celebrity interviews from politics, entertainment and “other areas of human interest.” The network has had inconsistent programming on Fridays for years, and this could be an experiment to see if a newsmagazine-style show would do better.
Departing “NCIS” actor Michael Weatherly will remain at CBS in the network’s drama pilot “Bull,” playing a character inspired by Dr. Phil McGraw. Weatherly has been on “NCIS” for 13 seasons. He’s leaving in May.
