World soccer will be without FIFA president Sepp Blatter and cohort Michel Platini for at least the next eight years. Blatter and Platini, head of the European soccer confederation UEFA, were both banned from the sport for eight years after FIFA’s ethics committee found them guilty of abusing their positions. FIFA officials have been accused of many ethical violations, but this punishment specifically relates to a payment made to Platini for $2 million in 2011 for work they claim was carried out between 1998 and 2002.
Austin agency GSD&M has made a number of additions, including Shannon Jensen and Sam Nelson as associate media directors. Jensen joins from TM Advertising, Nelson from LIN Digital. The agency has also added three account supervisors: Marie Graw, Patty Liendo and Brandon Santos. Graw joins from BI Worldwide, Liendo from Latinworks and Santos from Carmichael Lynch.
Atlanta agency 22squared has promoted John Stapleton, naming him chief creative officer. Stapleton had been executive vice president and chief creative director.
IBT Media has named Arbell Noach vice president and director of social media, reporting to chief marketing officer Mitchell Caplan. Noach was most recently engagement lead at Doremus.
Lika Blank has been promoted to general producer at CTC Media, an independent broadcast company in Russia. Blank was previously head of the Domashniy and CTC Love channels.
Actor Adam Driver is set to host NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” appearing on the Jan. 16 episode. Driver appears in HBO’s “Girls” and also plays the main villain in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Megalyn Echikunwoke has joined the cast of CW’s “Arrow,” playing a hero named Vixen. Echikunwoke has previously appeared in shows including “The Following,” “Mind Games” and “Made in Jersey.”
Actor James Franco is set to executive produce a remake of the movie “Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?” at Lifetime, to air sometime in 2016. Franco will also work on the story, while Amber Coney will write the script.
A&E has added Jaime Ray Newman to the cast of “Bates Motel,” playing the ex-girlfriend of Nestor Carbonell’s character. Newman most recently made a pair of guest appearances on “Satisfaction.”
President Barack Obama will guest on the seventh season premiere of Jerry Seinfeld’s Crackle series, “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” which returns Dec. 30. Other guests this season will include Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Garry Shandling, Kathleen Madigan and Sebastian Maniscalco.
