The lawsuit involving Viacom and CBS executive chairman Sumner Redstone will continue for now. A judge in Los Angeles County Superior Court set a tentative hearing date for January to consider dismissing the case at the request of Redstone’s lawyers, while also rejecting a petition to treat the case as urgent. Redstone’s former girlfriend, Manuela Herzer, filed the suit last week, saying the 92-year-old has not been able to “communicate reliably or competently manage his own health care.” The suit claims Herzer was improperly removed from overseeing Redstone’s medical decisions. While the suit is related to his personal medical issues, there have also been recent questions about Redstone’s ability to continue with CBS and Viacom if his mental health is as poor as Herzer alleges.
