Former “Sex and the City” actress Cynthia Nixon is returning to cable TV. She has joined Showtime’s “The Affair” for its second season, appearing as a no-nonsense couples therapist helping Dominic West and Ruth Wilson’s characters. Nixon won two Emmys for her role as Miranda Hobbes on “Sex and the City.”
National Geographic Channels has promoted Brad Dancer to executive vice president of programming planning and research, up from senior vice president. Dancer has been with the company since 2000, and before that he was at the Fox affiliate WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C.
Susie Fitzgerald has been promoted to executive vice president of scripted programming for both AMC and SundanceTV, based in Los Angeles. Fitzgerald had been senior vice president of scripted development and current programming for AMC.
Spike TV has promoted Jon Slusser to senior vice president of sports and specials, reporting to network president Kevin Kay. Slusser had been in charge of the network’s sports programming and now adds live specials and events to his duties.
CNBC has chosen the six people who will moderate its upcoming GOP debate, which takes place on Oct. 28. Those asking the questions that night will be “Squawk on the Street” co-anchor Carl Quintanilla, “Squawk Box” co-anchor Becky Quick, chief Washington correspondent John Harwood, on-air editor Rick Santelli, senior personal finance correspondent Sharon Epperson and “Mad Money” host Jim Cramer.
USA has added Peter Gadiot to the cast of its upcoming drama “Queen of the South,” based on the book by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. Gadiot previously appeared on “Once Upon a Time in Wonderland.”
Kelli Williams and Rob Morrow have joined ABC Family’s “The Fosters,” both in recurring guest star roles. Williams previously appeared on “Army Wives,” Morrow on “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.”
Flying magazine has promoted Stephen Pope, naming him editor in chief of the aviation title. Pope was most recently a senior editor.
The Newspaper Association of America has named David Chavern president and chief executive officer, effective Oct. 14. Chavern previously spent 10 years at the United States Chamber of Commerce, most recently as president of the Center for Advanced Technology and Innovation.
Jason Shugars has been named senior vice president of partnerships at ROKT, an online advertising technology company. Shugars was most recently vice president of product development at Martini Media.
Former “Friends” actor David Schwimmer has joined the British sitcom “Morning Has Broken,” where he will play a morning TV show producer. The show will premiere on the UK’s Channel 4 next year.
