New comedy ‘Kevin Can Wait’ grows in week two
CBS show rises a tenth from last week, to a 2.7 in 18-49s, despite 'Bang' drop
September 27, 2016
CBS got some encouraging results Monday, with new comedy “Kevin Can Wait” growing over last week’s already-strong debut.
“Kevin” averaged a 2.7 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, up a tenth from last week.
It was up despite a decline of a tenth for lead-in “The Big Bang Theory,” which was still the night’s top entertainment show with a 3.5.
NBC’s “The Voice” was even to last week with a 3.3, though it lasted only an hour this week rather than the usual two, because of the presidential debate at 9 p.m.
ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” also improved week-to-week, growing a tenth to a 1.8 at 8 (like “Voice,” the usually two-hour program was condensed to make room for the debate).
Fox’s “Gotham” posted a 1.2 in the demo, down a tenth from last week’s debut.
As for the debates? Everyone wants to know how the much-hyped showdown between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump fared in the ratings, but alas they’ll have to wait a few hours to find out.
Overnight ratings don’t measure actual program data and they also don’t take into account time zone differences.
So while it appears with the early numbers that the Big Four, Univision and Telemundo averaged more than 45 million for the 90-minute-plus debate, an exact tally will have to wait until this evening, when Nielsen will release the final information, including cable viewing.
Check back with Media Life later to get the ratings.
