NBCU: We’re ramping up digital content
April 16, 2014
NBCUniversal isn’t content to fill programming hours on just its broadcast and cable networks. It’s now making an active push to develop online programming as well.
The company this week laid out plans for original video programming to air on digital platforms, including on channels’ web sites, Hulu and video on demand. In some cases NBCU will work directly with advertisers to create new content, and the digital offerings will be promoted on its linear TV channels.
For example, Universal Television is working on “Saturday Night Line” for NBC.com, a digital series about the fans who wait outside for standby tickets to tapings of “Saturday Night Live.”
The studio is also developing “Heroes Reborn: Digital Series,” a prequel to accompany the upcoming “Heroes” miniseries.
Universal Cable Productions has a number of projects in the works, including the comedy “Tesla and Twain,” following the inventor and the author after they’re transported to modern-day Los Angeles, and “Last Single Girl,” about a single woman who is the last among her friends to marry.
