MRC holds back accreditation for Rentrak
March 24, 2015

Every day seems to bring word that Rentrak, which measures everything from movie grosses to TV viewership, has signed a new deal, most recently with GSN and Horizon Media.
But while Rentrak’s reach may be expanding, it was dealt a blow this week with the word that the Media Rating Council has denied accreditation to its TV ratings.
This is not an insurmountable problem.
Nielsen has also failed to win accreditation for new products right away, and Rentrak has already pledged to implement the remediation steps recommended by MRC.
In a release Monday, the MRC said Rentrak’s products were “were not sufficiently compliant with MRC’s standards.”
The measurement company had been trying to get approval for its national and local TV services.
Media buyers and planners will be watching closely to see if Rentrak can eventually win the approval. MRC will do another audit before the end of the year.
