March Madness lifts CBS to No. 1 on Sunday night
Network averages a 1.4 in 18-49s, boosted by a 3.5 for the end of b-ball
March 20, 2017
The NCAA men’s basketball tournament spilled into primetime Sunday night, giving the CBS lineup a lift.
The network led the Big Four with an average 1.4 adults 18-49 rating for the night, according to Nielsen overnights, 40 percent ahead of No. 2 NBC, which averaged a 1.0.
The final half-hour of March Madness coverage at 7 p.m. produced the night’s biggest rating, a 3.5, which bumped up lead-out “60 Minutes.”
The long-running newsmagazine posted a 1.7 from roughly 7:35 p.m. to 8:35 p.m., finishing as the evening’s top non-sports show, 0.2 ahead of NBC’s “Little Big Shots,” the night’s second-ranked non-sports program on broadcast.
“NCIS: Los Angeles” rose a tenth from last week, posting a 1.2.
On NBC, “Chicago Justice” fell to a new low with a 1.0 at 9 p.m., against strong cable competition from “The Walking Dead” on AMC and Turner networks’ continued coverage of the NCAA tournament.
ABC’s shows were all on the low end, including “American Crime,” which dropped to a series-low 0.4 at 10 p.m., off a tenth from last week’s premiere.
Fox, too, struggled, with just one program, “Family Guy” (1.1), posting above a 1.0.
