Kansas City Royals become Twitter darlings
October 7, 2014
The Kansas City Royals’ first postseason win in nearly 30 years caused a stir on Twitter last week.
TBS’s coverage of the Royals’ wildcard win over the Oakland A’s generated 818,000 total tweets three hours before, during and three hours after the game, according to Nielsen SocialGuide, the most of any TV telecast during the week ended Oct. 5.
It was the Royals’ first postseason win since the team won the World Series in 1985. The game was also No. 7 for the week with a unique Twitter audience of 5.47 million, or the number of accounts that saw at least one tweet about the game.
Kansas City has since advanced to the American League Championship Series, where it will play the Baltimore Orioles.
ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” game between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots drew the week’s largest Twitter audience, 6.88 million.
