Updated numbers: Grammy Awards hit three-year high
Ceremony draws 26.05 million total viewers on CBS, up 4 percent
February 13, 2017
The Grammy Awards nearly knocked Twitter offline last night when Adele won album of the year and Beyonce did not, much to the outrage of her legion of fans sounding off on the social media site.
On TV, viewership hit a three-year high and was up a tad among adults 18-49.
The Grammys averaged 26.05 million total viewers, according to Nielsen, up 4 percent from last year.
It was the most-watched Grammy Awards since 2014.
(Note: Earlier metered-market numbers indicated the Grammys were about even with last year.)
The Grammy Awards have averaged between 25 million and 28 million viewers every year dating back to 2010, save for a big spike to nearly 40 million in 2012, when singer Whitney Houston died just hours before the ceremony.
Among 18-49s, the show posted a 7.8 rating, up a tenth from last year. In 18-34s, the program rose 3 percent, to a 6.6. It was even in 25-54s with a 9.0.
Elsewhere on broadcast Sunday night, the other networks were largely in repeats or aired movies. ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” did hit a season high of a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating at 7 p.m.
And Telemundo’s special town hall news special, “Inmigracion, Trump y los Hispanos,” averaged a 0.5 in the demo in the same hour.
