Fox wins Wednesday, but ‘Empire’ falls
Drama ties its second-lowest rating this season with a 3.8 in 18-49s

Fox continues to dominate Wednesday nights, now that “Empire” has returned from its midseason hiatus.
But the smash drama is seeing its live ratings fall, like just about everything on broadcast this spring.
“Empire” averaged a 3.8 adults 18-49 rating Wednesday night, according to Nielsen, down 12 percent from last week and off a full point from its midseason debut two weeks ago.
The drama was still easily the No. 1 show of the night, and it lifted Fox to a nightly win. But it was also the program’s second-lowest rating this season and just the third time the show has ever posted lower than a 4.0 rating.
Lead-in “Rosewood,” which was renewed for a second season last week, posted a 1.2 at 8 p.m., trailing the other Big Three networks.
ABC’s “Modern Family” was down a tenth from last week to a 2.2, another season low, but it was still the No. 2 show on broadcast for the night.
CBS’s “Survivor” won the 8 p.m. hour with a 1.9, though ABC’s “The Goldbergs” finished just a tenth behind it at 8:30 with a 1.8.
Make your own pun here—the series premiere of NBC’s “Strong” didn’t have any heft. The new reality show, executive produced by Sylvester Stallone, averaged a 0.9 at 9 p.m. and again at 10, though it remained steady throughout its two-hour bow.
It got a 1.7 lead-in from a special episode of “The Voice” at 8 p.m.
Finally, CBS’s “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” matched its series high with a 1.5 at 10 p.m., dominating the hour. ABC’s “Nashville” hit a five-week high with a 1.0 in the slot.
