Football overrun lifts CBS’s Sunday lineup
Shows get a boost from Patriots-Steelers contest, which tops primetime
October 24, 2016
CBS and Fox trade the NFL doubleheader game every week, and whichever network has football sees a correlating bump in the ratings.
Last night it was CBS’s turn.
The network’s Sunday lineup soared with a big lead-in from the Pittsburgh Steelers-New England Patriots contest, which averaged a 5.9 adults 18-49 rating during its final half hour from 7 to 7:30 p.m., according to Nielsen.
That lifted lead-out “60 Minutes” to a 3.2 in the demo, making it the highest-rated non-sports program of the day. The show also featured an interview with Kim Kardashian that may have appealed more to the younger crowd than the average episode of the newsmagazine.
At 8:30 p.m., “NCIS: Los Angeles” jumped up 21 percent from last week, to a 1.7, while at 10:30 p.m. “Elementary” grew by a tenth vs. last week, to a 0.7.
Without football, all of Fox’s scripted series were off week to week. “The Simpsons” led all shows with a 1.6.
ABC’s lineup continued to struggle, with all of its Sunday dramas seeing a small decline from last week.
Meanwhile, on NBC, it appears “Sunday Night Football” saw a nice boost from last week. It averaged an 11.6 metered-market household rating, up sharply from a season-low 9.0 last week.
NBC easily won the night among all key demos.
