‘Empire’ falls again but still fuels Fox to first
Drama posts a 3.6 in 18-49s, second-lowest rating of the season

It’s becoming a familiar story for Fox on Wednesday night.
“Empire” sees a week-to-week decline but still clobbers everything else on broadcast.
So it was Wednesday night, when the hit drama dropped to its second-lowest rating of the season but nearly doubled the night’s No. 2 show in adults 18-49, CBS’s “Survivor.”
“Empire” averaged a 3.6 adults 18-49 rating at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, down 5 percent from last week’s 3.8.
It was the show’s second-worst rating of the season, behind only a 3.2 on the night before Thanksgiving, traditionally a low-rated night for television.
Yet “Empire” remains far and away broadcast’s top show. Thanks to the musical drama, Fox thrashed the other networks in primetime, posting a 2.4 rating, with CBS a distant second with a 1.7.
“Survivor” posted a 2.0 at 8 p.m., the night’s second-ranked show overall and up a tenth from last week.
Lead-out “Criminal Minds” was the No. 3 show of the night with a 1.7, even to its last original two weeks ago. It helped that ABC’s comedies were all repeats, giving “Survivor” and “Minds” less competition.
NBC also aired largely repeats, with “Heartbeat” at 8 p.m. its only original. The new drama posted a 0.8, up a tenth from its previous original episode.
