Early numbers: NBC leads on election night
Averages 12 million total viewers, ahead of No. 2 ABC with 9.7 million
November 9, 2016
On election night, the networks turned their primetime schedules over to their news teams.
And NBC paced the pack Tuesday, as it usually does.
That’s according to early numbers, which are subject to much change when the final tallies come out later today. These numbers don’t account for time zone differences.
Lester Holt and his NBC crew averaged 12 million total viewers during primetime, according to Nielsen overnights, ahead of ABC at 9.7 million.
NBC and ABC have the top two evening newscasts, so it’s little surprise they’d be out ahead.
CBS was third with 8.8 million, followed by Fox with 4.3 million.
Both Univision and Telemundo had robust crowds for their election coverage, posting 3.9 million and 2.2 million, respectively.
Only the CW did not air election coverage. It had repeats of “The Flash” and “No Tomorrow,” which averaged 1 million on the night, clearly drawing away some who were uninterested in listening to more from an election that has seemingly gone on for months.
Check back with Media Life later today for updated numbers and viewership from the cable news networks.
