‘Designated Survivor’ rises in midseason return
Kiefer Sutherland drama posts a 1.3 in 18-49s, best rating since October
March 9, 2017
ABC’s “Designated Survivor” returned from an extended break Wednesday night with its best rating since October.
The Kiefer Sutherland drama posted a 1.3 adults 18-49 rating in the 10 p.m. timeslot, according to Nielsen, up a tenth from its last original episode on Dec. 14.
The show undoubtedly was helped by the fact that NBC aired a repeat of “Chicago P.D.” in the hour rather than an original.
“Designated” won at 10 p.m., topping the second-season premiere of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders,” which posted just a 0.9.
Perhaps more notable, since CBS skews older and its strength is in total viewers, “Designated” topped “Borders” in total viewers with 5.88 million to the latter’s 5.35 million.
ABC won Wednesday night with ease, averaging a 1.5 in 18-49s in primetime.
“Modern Family” finished as the night’s top show with a 1.9.
“The Goldbergs” tied with the season premiere of “Survivor” as the No. 2 show of the night, both posting a 1.2. “Survivor” aired a two-hour bow, which was slightly off from last fall.
Elsewhere Tuesday, Fox’s “Star” matched last week with a 1.1, though lead-in “Lethal Weapon” fell a tenth to a 1.2.
