Well over 9 million Hispanics watch Clinton-Trump
October 6, 2016
Last week’s record setting presidential debate was also a strong draw among Hispanic viewers.
On Spanish-language broadcast, Univision’s coverage of the debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump averaged 2.42 million total viewers, according to Nielsen.
That made it the No. 2 program on Spanish-language TV during the week ended Oct. 2, behind only Telemundo‘s “Hasta que te Conocí.”
Meanwhile, Telemundo’s coverage averaged 1.74 million Latino viewers, placing it among the week’s top 20.
Nielsen has not released Hispanic viewership numbers for the actual debate on English-language broadcast networks, which drew a record 84 million viewers.
But if numbers for the post-debate analysis shows are an indication, Latino viewership here was also significant.
NBC’s post-debate analysis averaged 1.19 million Hispanic viewers, No. 4 for the week on English-language broadcast behind three NFL programs. Additionally, ABC’s post-debate coverage averaged 890,000 Hispanic viewers, with CBS’s at 625,000.
English-language cable also received a good number of Latino viewers. CNN averaged 1.19 million viewers for the debate, tops for the week on English-language cable.
Fox News Channel averaged another 446,000 Hispanics, while MSNBC brought in 333,000.
Together, the debate on Univision, Telemundo, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, along with post-debate coverage on the Big Three broadcast networks, brought in a grand total of nearly 9 million Hispanic viewers.
Another 18-49 win for Telemundo
Meanwhile, the week on Spanish-language broadcast finished similarly to the previous week. Univision was on top among total viewers, while Telemundo led among 18-49s.
Among viewers Univision averaged 1.78 million, just ahead of Telemundo’s 1.70 million. UniMás was a distant third at 450,000, with Estrella TV at 220,000, Azteca at 100,000 and MundoMax at 60,000.
Telemundo led the way among 18-49s with 850,000 in the demo, with Univision right behind at 820,000. UniMás came in at 200,000, with Estrella at 90,000, Azteca at 60,000 and MundoMax at 10,000.
