Cable overnights: Yankees’ loss scores
October 7, 2015
Love ‘em or hate ‘em – and no one is in between – the New York Yankees sure draw a big audience.
Tuesday night’s wild card playoff game between the Yankees and the Houston Astros on ESPN drew the best overnight rating for any Major League Baseball game on the network in 12 years.
The contest averaged a 5.7 among households, according to Nielsen. Should the rating hold, it would also be ESPN’s best-ever rating for a wild card game.
In Houston, which won the game 3-0, the contest averaged a 14.8 rating, while it posted a 12.0 in New York City.
The game averaged 7.6 million total viewers, easily the top show on Tuesday night on cable, as well as a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating.
In fact, that outrated everything on broadcast Tuesday night in the demo.
ESPN also drew strong numbers online with the WatchESPN app, which streamed to 445,000 unique viewers.
