Cable overnights: ‘Town Hall’ lifts CNN
April 13, 2016
Cable news’ Donald Trump obsession continues. And viewers continue to eat it up.
CNN’s “Trump Family Town Hall” on Tuesday night, which featured the Republican presidential candidate and his family, lifted the network to first place among the cable news channels.
CNN averaged 2.154 million total viewers for the 9 p.m. show, according to Nielsen overnights, just ahead of Fox News Channel, which averaged 1.992 million.
Among adults 25-54, “Town Hall” averaged 570,000, again ahead of FNC’s 348,000. In fact, MSNBC wasn’t far behind Fox News in the hour, with 330,000.
CNN placed first for the night in the demo, but FNC held its usual advantage in total viewers, with 2.089 million to CNN’s 1.531 million.
It’s a full week of political candidates across CNN. The network had scheduled a town hall with Republican candidate Ted Cruz for Wednesday and a Democratic debate on Thursday.
In other cable ratings, Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” was the No. 1 original program, drawing a 0.8 adults 18-49 rating.
Bravo’s season finale of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” drew a 0.7, the No. 2 original show overall.
And a pair of NBA games on TNT each averaged a 0.6, with viewership rising as the regular season draws to an end.
