Cable overnights: TBS wraps record postseason
October 22, 2015
The New York Mets wrapped up a four-game sweep of the Chicago Cubs Wednesday night on TBS, closing out the most-watched Major League Baseball postseason ever on the network.
Game four of the series averaged 7.9 million total viewers, according to Nielsen, becoming TBS’s most-watched game four ever.
It was also the most-watched program of the day on cable.
The contest averaged a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, ranking No. 3 overall on the night on broadcast and cable, behind only “Empire” and “Modern Family.”
For the postseason, TBS averaged 6.3 million total viewers, an all-time high and up 48 percent over last year.
Among adults 18-49, this year’s postseason on the network was up 58 percent.
Interest in the postseason was way up because of the Cubs, who haven’t won a World Series in more than a century. Alas for Chicago fans and anyone else hoping for them to break the curse, the Mets won the National League Championship Series easily and now await the winner of the American League Championship Series, still playing out between the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals on Fox Sports 1.
Meanwhile, FX’s “American Horror Story” was the No. 2 program of the day on cable with a 1.7, off 23 percent from a 2.2 last week.
