Cable overnights: ‘Smackdown’ slips in second week
July 28, 2016
While politicians wrestled over the whole Hillary vs. Bernie issue over on CNN, Fox News Channel and MSNBC Tuesday night, actual wrestlers appeared on USA Network.
“WWE Smackdown” fell versus last week, which was its first in its new Tuesday timeslot.
In week two, “Smackdown” dropped 17 percent, from a 1.2 adults 18-49 rating to a 1.0, according to Nielsen.
That was still good enough to finish as cable’s No. 1 original entertainment program of the night (unless you count the convention as entertainment).
CNN’s DNC coverage tops night
CNN’s Democratic National Convention coverage was cable’s top program in the demo Tuesday night, averaging a 1.3.
A repeat of TBS’s “Family Guy” placed second with a 1.1, a tenth ahead of another repeat of the show.
Elsewhere on cable, Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” (0.6) and TNT’s “Animal Kingdom” (0.4) were even with last week.
Oprah Winfrey Network’s “The Haves and the Have Nots” (0.9) rose a tenth over last week.
