Cable overnights: OWN’s ‘Greenleaf’ rebounds
July 8, 2016
Oprah Winfrey Network’s “Greenleaf” bowed to record numbers two weeks ago, but then cooled off in its second outing, going from a 0.8 adults 18-49 Nielsen rating to a 0.5.
But the OWN drama about a mega-church in the South showed some spark in its third week.
It bounced back to a 0.6 on Wednesday night, according to overnights, and tied Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of New York City” as the No. 1 original program of the night on cable in the demo.
“Greenleaf” launched behind “The Haves and the Have Nots,” which gave it an excellent lead-in, helping the program to become the biggest debut in network history.
Meanwhile, elsewhere on cable Wednesday night, A&E’s “Duck Dynasty” drew a 0.5 in its season premiere.
While that’s way less than a third of what the show drew during its peak a few years back, it was still among the night’s top original programs on cable.
MTV’s “The Challenge: Rivals III” also drew a 0.5, even with last week.
