Another series high for NBC’s ‘This Is Us’
The tearjerker drama draws 11 million total viewers, up 18 percent
March 8, 2017
NBC’s “This Is Us” rose to another series high Tuesday night, assisted by a healthy lead-in from “The Voice.”
The new drama, which has already been renewed for seasons two and three, averaged 11 million total viewers at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, a new best. That was also up 18 percent over its most recent episode two weeks ago.
Among adults 18-49, the show averaged a 2.9, its second-best rating ever.
With those numbers, it became NBC’s best in-season performance in the timeslot with scripted programming in 10 years. (“Us” posted its series high in 18-49s, a 3.0, in a special 10 p.m. airing earlier this year.)
“Us” was the night’s highest-rated program in the demo, topping “Voice’s” 2.6. But “Voice” drew more viewers, with 11.5 million.
NBC also continued to give new drama “Chicago Justice” a big push, slotting it in at 10 p.m. for a special episode, which averaged a 1.3 in the demo. It won the timeslot. “Justice” usually airs Sunday nights.
Elsewhere Tuesday, CBS’s “NCIS” was the night’s top show in total viewers with just over 14 million, and it posted a 1.6 in the demo, equal to its last episode.
ABC’s “The Middle” and “American Housewife” were steady, each with a 1.4.
In late night, CBS’s surging “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” hit its best overnight since September 2015, when Colbert took over as host. He averaged a 2.9 metered-market household rating, up 4 percent from last week, opposite a repeat of “The Tonight Show” on NBC.
“The Late Late Show with James Corden” drew a 1.5, equaling its best since February of last year.
