Ah, the most memorable back to school ads
August 25, 2015
Over the past six years, retail chain Walmart is the king of back-to-school advertising.
That’s according to new analysis from Nielsen, which ranked back-to-school ads from the past six years, dating back to 2009, on brand memorability. Walmart came away with the top two ads during that period.
Both ads were from 2012 and featured cost-saving themes. The top ad, titled “Stephanie and Ashley,” featured a mother and daughter acting very surprised at some of the deals on offer at the retail giant.
That ad received a brand memorability index score of 292, well ahead of any other ad.
The second ad, another spot for Walmart titled “Kristin,” received a brand memorability index score of 238.
Best Buy was the only other back-to-school advertiser with two ads in the top 10, with one at No. 6 and another at No. 8.
Judging by Nielsen’s list, viewers haven’t been too impressed with back-to-school advertising in recent years.
Only one ad from the past two years made the list, a 2013 spot for Payless ShoeSource, which came in at No. 5 with a memorability index score of 208.
