ABC, CBS and Fox bounce back on Wednesday
March 6, 2014
Four of ABC’s Wednesday night shows rebounded from last week’s season lows last night.
In fact, it was a night of rebounds for a number of broadcast shows, as Fox’s “American Idol” and CBS’s “Criminal Minds” also saw week-to-week gains.
ABC’s “Modern Family” was the night’s top show, posting a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating at 9 p.m., according to Nielsen, up 6 percent from last week.
Earlier in the night, ABC’s “The Middle” (up 12 percent to 1.9) and “Suburgatory” (up 21 percent to a 1.7) also grew. The 10 p.m. drama “Nashville” increased by 8 percent, to a 1.4.
“Idol” was up week-to-week for the first time since before the Olympics, posting a 2.7 from 8 to 10 p.m., up a tenth from last week.
And CBS’s “Criminal Minds,” which aired at 10 p.m. last week to make room for the two-hour premiere of “Survivor,” surged 18 percent to a 2.6, coming within a tenth of “Idol’s” rating in the hour.
Not every show saw gains, though. ABC’s new comedy “Mixology” fell a tenth from last week’s debut to a 1.6 despite airing behind “Family.”
And NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Chicago P.D.,” which aired a highly rated crossover last week, both declined double-digit percentages, to a 1.6 and 1.5, respectively.
Fox led the night among 18-49s with a 2.7 average overnight rating and an 8 share. CBS was second at 2.2/7, ABC third at 1.9/6, NBC fourth at 1.5/4, Univision fifth at 1.1/3, CW sixth at 0.6/2 and Telemundo seventh at 0.4/1.
As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback, which includes shows replayed before 3 a.m. the night before. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Forty-nine percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.
At 8 p.m. Fox was first with a 2.8 for “Idol,” followed by CBS with a 2.4 for “Survivor.” ABC was third with a 1.8 for “Middle” (1.9) and “Suburgatory” (1.7), NBC fourth with a 1.3 for “Revolution,” Univision fifth with a 0.8 for “Por Siempre Mi Amor,” CW sixth with a 0.7 for “Arrow” and Telemundo seventh with a 0.3 for “La Impostora.”
Fox was first again at 9 p.m. with a 2.7 for more “Idol,” with CBS a close second with a 2.6 for “Minds.” ABC was third with a 2.5 for “Family” (3.3) and “Mixology” (1.6), NBC fourth with a 1.6 for “SVU,” Univision fifth with a 1.4 for “Low Que La Vida Me Robo,” and CW and Telemundo tied for sixth at 0.4, CW for “The Tomorrow People” and Telemundo for “En Otra Piel.”
CBS took the lead at 10 p.m. with a 1.7 for “CSI,” while NBC moved to second with a 1.5 for “Chicago.” ABC was third with a 1.4 for “Nashville,” Univision fourth with a 1.0 for “Que Pobres Ran Ricos” and Telemundo fifth with a 0.5 for “Camelia, La Texana.”
Fox was also first for the night among households with a 6.4 average overnight rating and a 10 share. CBS was second at 6.3/10, ABC third at 3.8/6, NBC fourth at 3.7/6, Univision fifth at 1.5/2, CW sixth at 1.2/2 and Telemundo seventh at 0.6/1.
