A better Vue: Sony OTT adds Disney channels

November 5, 2015

vue ‘How to Get Away with Murder’ will soon be available for viewing on Vue, with other ABC shows.

Sony’s PlayStation Vue cloud-based TV service hasn’t made a big splash in the over the top field, but perhaps some additional content will change that.

Disney and ESPN Media Networks have reached a deal that will bring many new channels to the streaming service, although there’s no word yet on when the content will roll out.

The list of new channels includes Disney’s biggest names, including ESPN, ABC-owned local stations, ABC Family (soon to be Freeform) and Disney Channel.

Others are Disney Junior, Disney XD, ESPN2, ESPN College Extra, ESPNU, ESPNews, ESPN Deportes, ESPN Classic, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Bases Loaded, Fusion, Longhorn Network and SEC-ESPN Network.

In addition, other local ABC affiliates will have the option of including their live stations in the service.

The PlayStation Vue service streams through PlayStation video game consoles, as well as Sony mobile devices and TVs. It’s only available in a handful of markets: Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, New York, Philadelphia and the San Francisco Bay area. But Sony hopes to expand.

There are three subscription levels, and none of them are cheap: Access is $49.99 per month, Core is $59.99 and Elite $69.99.

The Access level includes networks such as CBS, Fox, NBC, BET, FX and WE tv. The Core level includes USA, TBS, Syfy, MTV, HGTV and others, while Elite adds networks such as IFC, Oxygen, DUY and CNN.

There’s no word yet on what tier the ABC/Disney content will fall under.

A complete list of the service’s plans and networks can be found here.
